Starting Cooking on the Fly had been something I have wanted to do for a while now. Over the last few years I have shared recipes with fellow Flybabies on the Flylady's Facebook page and everyone is always telling me I should make a cook book with them. I am still dabbling in that idea but while I do I thought a webpage with the recipes, videos and pictures of my cooking would be fun. My daughter came up with our "Names" I am Big Chef, she is Little Chef and her brother is Boy Chef. Of course those might change as time goes on but they are cute as can be so they stuck! Little Chef is my most active assistant, but Boy Chef does help out too. There is also Chef Daddy, who is head cook of Daddy's Bar and Grill (also known as the screen house in the back yard...) he will make random appearances for those delicious grilled meals we make! There will dog treat recipes on here as well, at least a few of them. Head Taste Tester Butterball, a huge yellow lab will share her opinions of the treats her as well.
I decided to start this adventure this week because my kids are on Harvest Break from now until October 10th (yeah, 2 weeks, plus 2 days for Columbus day and a teachers workshop day!) I figure the best way to keep them from driving me insane is to keep them busy! Here in Northern Maine playing outside this time of year is iffy. Already in the mornings we are in the low 30's and afternoon highs are in the low to mid 60's, and rain is typical at least a few times a week. With lots of indoor time it would be easy for them to drive me crazy but with helping me cook lunches and dinners that will give them something to plan and something to do. Also part of any good cooking project is ingredients, and there is no better time for fresh ingredients than Harvest Break in Northern Maine! For this week there are already plans to go to a potato field to pick some potatoes and a trip to Goughan's Farm for PUMPKINS! (and other fresh produce LOL).
I will be posting recipes, pictures, video and blog accounts of our adventures as we go along and I would love your feed back on anything you see or read here!
