Part of starting up Cooking on the Fly is to get us eating more healthy. But just eating healthy is not enough, we really need to get more active around here!
Our official start date is actually tomorrow, Monday October 1st, 2012. I chose that day because it is the start of a new week and a new month, a fresh start all around. October is really the start of Autumn around here, my favorite season. We are starting to bring in the harvests at the local farms and the amount of local produce is staggering! Can't beat the freshness when it comes straight from the ground to your hand!
I am going to be using SparkPeople to help start our new Healthy Living Plan. I have used the site in the past, right after Boy Chef was born, to lose weight. It worked out great but then there were a LOT of changes in my personal life including a major car accident that left me with lasting injuries that I still deal with now, 8yrs later, making it hard to stay fit. After Little Chef was born, I just didn't have time for myself really, and I didn't MAKE time for myself either! Now that Little Chef is in school for 1/2 a day with Pre-K I have found the energy to carve out some time for me. I plan on using the hours that she is gone for exercise and for this website (IN THAT ORDER, I shout at myself...) I also started a notebook to go with my plan, a place for me to keep track of successes AND failures, YES failures. If we don't keep track of them how can we learn from them and make the changes needed? It is hard for me to write about my failures, even in a journal that only I will see, but damn it I am GOING to DO it!
This is the start in a series of posts that I will label Healthy Living in the category section to make them easier to search and find. I will update them at least weekly, sometimes more often.
To start us off I am going to share my current stats and both my long term and short term goals!
Currently I weigh 207 lbs (I am 5ft 8in tall...)
My long term goal is to weigh 150 (that is to lose 57lbs)
I want to lose 1lb a week so that will take me a bit more than a year, but I am OK with that, studies prove that slow, steady weight loss is easier to maintain once you reach your goal weight!
My weight loss goal for October is to be at 203 by 10/31 (to lose 4lbs in 4 weeks)
My long term goal for exercise is to run/walk 3x a week and do yoga 3x a week.
My short term goal for exercise is to be running/walking 1x a week and doing yoga 1x a week consistently by 10/31
I chose Halloween as my first goal date because it is my favorite holiday!!! On that day I will tally up the amount of weight I have lost and donate an equal amount of food to the local food pantry as a symbol of the pounds being gone for good! Losing the weight for good and doing good at the same time! I will do this at each short term goal date, which I will set every month.
I hope that my progress will inspire you to make your own lives more healthy
