My kids love strawberries! If they could have them every day they would be happy! They love strawberry milk but I don’t love the price or the nutrition of commercial strawberry syrup. Last year I made them strawberry syrup that they really enjoyed…. But did I write down how I made it? NOPE! So this year I had to Google around & found 3 different recipes, none of them how I made it but between them I remembered what I had done, wrote it down… & now am sharing it with you!!!
You will need:
2 cups of sliced strawberries (measure them AFTER you slice them!)
½ cup of water
½ cup of sugar (you can use a sugar substitute if you wish)
A medium sized pot
A blender
Something to store the sauce in, I use a Good Seasonings glass salad dressing cruet!
Here is how you make it:
1. Put the sliced strawberries in the pot, add sugar & water & mix them together.
2. Turn heat on medium-high & bring mix to a boil, stirring often
3. Once it is boiling, reduce heat to low & simmer for 10 minutes, giving it a stir every few minutes to prevent sticking to the bottom
4. While it is simmering, get out your blender & get it ready, also get out you container for storage
5. After letting it simmer for 10 minutes, remove from heat & pour into blender, put lid on but leave it just a little loose to let steam out as you blend (KEEP YOUR HAND ON IT!!!)
6. Pulse 3-4 times, or until nice & smooth!
7. Pour into your container & put it in the fridge, leave the lid loose to let steam out & prevent condensation
Enjoy this on pancakes & waffles, use it to flavor frosting, add it to alcoholic beverages for a flavor kick, or put 2 TBSP into an 8oz glass of milk, stir well, & enjoy!
